| MMA Planning Begins for 2009 |
 | Bonnie's NotesBonnie compiled some figures from previous Christmas Seasons which show the progress of the Manistique Merchants' Christmas Cash program. We can make note for the umpteenth time that this program allows our patrons to seek out an interest free loan from their own bank or credit union. The loan comes to borrower in the form of Manistique Merchants scrip which is honored at any MMA member merchant that choses to participate in the program. It's the decision of the bank and borrower as to the amount of the loan that is given. The MMA is not involved in that decision, what-so-ever. MMA member merchants that participate in the Christmas Cash program need to understand that MMA Christmas Cash is discounted 5% at the time the member merchant deposits the MMA Christmas Cash at the member merchant's bank.
Member Merchants accept the Christmas Cash scrip at full face value and receive 95% value at time of deposit. The bank keeps the 5% as its interest income. Member Merchants "pay" the interest. If this still isn't clear, come to the meetings or contact an MMA officer

Update:
MMA Treasurer, Mrs. Stram was able to obtain "Crime Victum Funds" in a sufficient amount to restore a good chunk of the funds that were lost through the fraudulent use of bogus gift certificates early this year. It would be well for all MMA member merchants to be sure that they are familiar with the look and feel of the genuine MMA Gift Certificates; and, that they become familiar with the way our scrip is best handled. It is in our plans to make up a laminated instruction document which can be kept at your register(s) for quick and easy reference. That should be coming soon.
